MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. - The Green Bay volleyball team needed only four sets (25-15, 18-25, 29-27, 25-22, 25-22) to defeat the Robert Morris Colonials Friday on the road at UPMC Events Center. With the win, the Phoenix clinched a spot in the Horizon League Championships next week.
 
The Phoenix attack was paced by Gillian Koning, who finished with 17 kills on the day, and by Diane Pichelman, who had 14 while hitting .306. Defensively, GB had three players reach double figures in digs, including Emma Best's 20, 11 from Emma Johnson, and 10 more from Kennedy Schmitz. From the front row, Olivia Neumann contributed 11 blocks, and Jessica Kurpeikis added five rejections.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 | The Phoenix grabbed control of the set-one lead at 5-4 and held the lead the rest of the way to win 25-15. Green Bay's defense was suffocating for the Robert Morris offense, as it held them to just nine kills on a .079 attack percentage.
 
SET 2 | Green Bay lost set two 25-18 to tie the match 1-1. The Phoenix dropped the first point and fought from behind the rest of the way, but could never quite pull it back.
 
SET 3 | Green Bay then got back on the winning track, emerging victorious after a nail-biting third set that ended 29-27. RMU had set the point at 24-21 before GB scored four straight to force extra points before eventually taking it 29-27. Diane Pichelman closed it out for the Phoenix, collecting the final two points on kills.
 
SET 4 | Green Bay kept the momentum going, ending the match with a 25-22 fourth-set victory. The Phoenix took the lead for good at 14-13. Green Bay got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked four Robert Morris attacks in the stanza.

» Green Bay got a team-high 20 digs from Emma Best.

Green Bay will close out the regular season tomorrow against Robert Morris at 11 a.m. Next weekend, they'll play in the Horizon League Quarterfinal on Friday, Nov. 21.
