Phoenix Comes Back from 2-0 Deficit, Takes Down IU Indy in Five

GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Green Bay volleyball team fought back from down two sets to none to earn a come-from-behind five-set victory (18-25, 15-25, 25-23, 25-18, 16-14) over the IU Indianapolis Jaguars Saturday at the Kress Center.

The win was crucial for Green Bay's postseason hopes, as they moved to 8-8 in Horizon League play. They now sit alone in sixth place in the league standings. Six teams advance to the Horizon League Championships following the regular season.

The Phoenix offense was paced by Gillian Koning and Katie Schulz, who both finished with 15 kills on the day. Defensively, the Phoenix had two players reach double figures in digs as Jessica Kurpeikis had 15 and Emma Best had 13. From the front row, Diane Pichelman contributed six blocks and Olivia Neumann added five of her own. Emma Johnson spread the love around offensively, finishing the day with 43 assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 | The Phoenix found themselves in an early deficit, losing a tough first set 25-18. Green Bay trailed by as many as eight points as IU Indianapolis grabbed the advantage for good at 3-2 in a set that was tied up just once before the Jaguars took control.

SET 2 | Green Bay then lost set two by a bigger margin, 25-15, to fall behind in the match two sets to none. The Jaguars were excellent offensively in the second, finishing with 13 kills on a .357 attack percentage.

SET 3 | Green Bay rallied back to pull within two sets to one, winning their first set of the match in the third stanza. The Phoenix survived a back-and-forth set to win 25-23 after six lead changes and 13 ties. Neither team opened up a lead of more than three points along the way.

SET 4 | Green Bay continued their comeback, finding their groove offensively and winning the fourth set 25-18 to tie it up. After taking an early 5-4 lead, Green Bay led the rest of the way. The Phoenix offense tallied 15 kills on a .314 attack percentage.

SET 5 | IU Indy responded with a 9-5 start in the fifth set before the Phoenix pulled it back, rattling off an 11-5 run to close out the set and match.

» Emma Best had a team-high two aces in the win.
» IU Indy outhit Green Bay, .219 to .192 on the day.

ON THE HORIZON
Green Bay has two regular season matches left next weekend when they travel to Robert Morris for a pair on Nov. 14 & 15. The Phoenix controls its own postseason destiny and would get a berth to the conference tournament with a 2-0 weekend.
