Guyer's Big Night Helps Phoenix to Lopsided Road Win at Wright State

FAIRBORN, Ohio -- Jenna Guyer secured a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds to help the Green Bay women's basketball team defeat the Wright State Raiders 89-55 on the road Tuesday. "I'm proud of our whole team's effort tonight in putting together 40 solid minutes," second year head coach Kayla Karius said. "The 23 assists and 52 points in the paint are great indicators of team basketball. We have learned a lot about ourselves on the road but we are thrilled to be returning to the Kress for two games this weekend!"

The Phoenix (9-5, 4-0) had three players score in double figures, led by Guyer, who put together a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Gracie Grzesk tacked on 15 points off of the bench and Meghan Schultz chipped in as well with 10 points.

Green Bay out-rebounded Wright State 40-22 in Tuesday's game, led by Guyer's 10 boards.

Green Bay's defense held Wright State to only 35 percent shooting from the field, including 25 percent from beyond the arc. The Raiders did not have much luck cleaning up their misses on the offensive glass either, as they finished with nine offensive rebounds and managed three second chance points while Green Bay cleared 31 defensive rebounds.

How It Happened

After jumping out to a 16-15 advantage, Green Bay went on a 7-0 run with 2:59 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Schultz, to increase its lead to 23-15, a score that would hold for the rest of the period. Green Bay did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring 18 of its 23 points close to the basket.

Green Bay built that first quarter lead to 33-21 before going on a 7-0 run starting at the 5:59 mark in the second period, highlighted by a three from Lily Hansford, to increase its lead to 40-21. The Phoenix proceeded to tack on four points to that lead thanks to a Kamy Peppler 4-point play and enjoyed a 51-28 advantage heading into halftime. Green Bay forced three Wright State turnovers in the period and turned them into eight points.

After intermission, Green Bay added to its advantage and owned a 70-45 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Green Bay started tacking on points in the fourth almost immediately, going on a 9-0 run, finished off by Grzesk's layup, to grow the lead to 79-45 with 6:32 to go in the contest. The Phoenix held onto that lead for the rest of the game for the 89-55 win. Green Bay took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 12 of its 19 points in the paint.
