GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Green Bay softball team mounted a late comeback but fell in extra innings to the Robert Morris Colonials, 4-3. RMU swept the weekend series, taking two games yesterday over the Phoenix.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Saturday started as a pitcher's duel, with Green Bay's Genesis Eggart and RMU's Madison DeVault each pitched five no-hit innings.
The first hit of the game came in the sixth inning when back-to-back doubles helped the Colonials take a 1-0 lead. The Phoenix also registered a hit when Sara Ebner singled in the bottom half of the sixth.
RMU added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh. However, the Phoenix responded with three runs of their own to force extra innings. Madyson Baker drove in the first run before Paige Hanson had a bases-loaded hit by pitch and Giannia Camacho had a bases-loaded walk.
RMU scored once again in the top of the eighth and stopped the Phoenix from matching, securing the 4-3 win.
Eggart was dominant on Saturday, fanning 10 Robert Morris hitters over eight innings of work.
