GREEN BAY, Wis. – Welcome to the first April edition of the Phoenix Weekly, presented by Capital Credit Union. Softball will resume Horizon League play at King Park this weekend and golf has a big weekend on the road.

WEEK IN REVIEW
SOFTBALL
The Green Bay softball team went 1-2 in a three-game series at Oakland this past week, winning game one 8-1 before falling in game two, 4-2, and game three, 11-10. The Phoenix offense scored early and often in game one, going ahead 6-0 by the fourth inning thanks to a big performance at the plate from Emma Krueger. Krueger finished the game 2-for-4 with three RBI and Sara Ebner went 3-for-4. GB starter Genesis Eggart held the Oakland offense in check once again in the seventh and secured the 8-1 win. The lefty pitched a complete game, allowing just one run and four hits while striking out five.

Despite picking up eight hits in the ballgame and out-hitting Oakland, Green Bay was unable to push across more runs, as the Phoenix fell to the Golden Grizzlies 4-2 in game two. The Phoenix scoring came from a two-run homer from Sidney LaMotte; however, the Golden Grizzlies scored four runs off of GB starter Ava Schill and won the game.

After falling behind big early, the Green Bay softball team nearly made a nine-run comeback but ended up falling short in the third game of their series against Oakland 11-10. Paeton Kringel was dominant in the circle, striking out 11 Oakland hitters over 6.1 innings of work. The Golden Grizzlies opened the scoring in the first inning with a nine spot. Green Bay pulled it all the way back to 10-10 through six and a half innings, but Oakland tallied an 11th run in the bottom of the seventh to win the contest.

MEN'S GOLF
The Green Bay men's golf team kicked off the spring season on Monday and Tuesday at the Don Benbow Butler Spring Invitational at the Highland Country Club. The Phoenix finished 13th out of 13 teams.

Individually, Green Bay was led by Mason Haupt, who shot rounds of 74 (+4), 72 (+2), and 72 (+2) to finish in 45th place individually. Logan Pechinski was just behind him, finishing in 52nd place after rounds of 72 (+2), 74 (+4), and 73 (+3). Rounding out the Phoenix top three was Yinta Yang, who ended the three rounds +10 to come in 60th place.
