Freshmen Lead Phoenix at Horizon League Championships

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – The Green Bay golf teams were led by a pair of freshmen at the Horizon League Championships this weekend. Mason Haupt led the Green Bay men individually with a T4 finish and All-Tournament Team selection while Jordan Shipshock led the women with a sixth-place finish.

The Phoenix men finished the weekend in 6th place out of 10 teams. GB shot +11 in round one, +25 in round two, and +9 in Monday's third round to finish the weekend +45. Wright State won the league with a +17, 11 shots better than Cleveland State, who finished second.

After Haupt, the Phoenix was led by Trent Meyer and Logan Pechinski, who finished the weekend +15. Meyer had a great round on Monday, firing off a 71 (-1) along with Haupt. Yinta Yang rounded out the Green Bay scoring, tying for 34th with a +18. Haupt finished the event +2 overall.

The Phoenix women finished the conference championship fourth out of the eight-team field. Green Bay golfers combined to shoot a +86 across three rounds. Oakland won the event with a +51, Youngstown State finished in second with a +53, and Purdue Fort Wayne finished third with a +65.

Green Bay had two top-10 finishers, led by Shipshock's sixth place (+17). Lexi Meade was not far behind, finishing +19 in the 10 spot. Riley Pechinski and Ellie Frisch rounded out the top four for the Phoenix shooting +25 (T-19th) and +27 (21st) respectively.
