GREEN BAY, Wis. – UW-Green Bay has named Dr. Joanna Morrissey as the new Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR), announced Director of Athletics
Josh Moon.
"We are thrilled to have Dr. Morrissey step into this important role," Moon said. "She has done an excellent job building the Sport, Exercise & Performance Psychology Program, and she will help us continue to foster relationships with our awesome faculty and staff on campus."
Morrissey is an Associate Professor in the Psychology department at UWGB, and also serves as the Chair of the Sport, Exercise, and Performance Psychology graduate program that works closely with Phoenix Athletics.
"I am honored to step into the role of Faculty Athletics Representative at UW-Green Bay," Morrissey said. "I look forward to supporting our student-athletes and contributing to the integrity and success of our athletics program. It's a privilege to serve in this role and to help strengthen the connection between academics and athletics on our campus."
The faculty athletics representative (FAR) plays an important role in the athletics department, providing oversight of the academic integrity of the athletics program and serving as an advocate for student-athlete well-being. The NCAA requires each of its member institutions to appoint an FAR who must be on the faculty or administrative staff and may not hold a position in the athletics department
Dr. Morrissey's areas of expertise are the psychosocial aspects of sport, exercise, and health. She conducts mixed methods research on how thoughts, emotions, behaviors and sociocultural factors influence sport and exercise participation and quality of life. She is also a certified mental performance consultant and personal trainer who works with sport and exercise participants in an effort to enhance optimal performance.
Dr. Morrissey earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the College of Saint Benedict in 2005, a Master of Science in Sport and Exercise Psychology from Ball State in 2007, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Health and Human Physiology from Iowa in 2012.
