YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Green Bay women's soccer team fell in its Horizon League season opener against Youngstown State on Thursday night by a score of 3-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The match remained scoreless until Youngstown scored two goals within six minutes, first scoring in the 23
rd minute by Sara Felder, followed by a Kamryn Rosa goal in the 29
th minute. Green Bay got one of the goals back in the 35
th minute with an
Aixa Helbringer-Escobar goal off a
Senah Hanes assist to make the score 2-1 at halftime.
In the 53
rd minute, Youngstown State added another goal, this time on a shot by Emma Rigone from a Felder assist. An unassisted goal by Becca Stoeckmann in the 86
th minute gave Green Bay one last push, before the score ended at 3-2 in favor of the Penguins.
GAME NOTES
- Thursday was the first time Green Bay scored several goals in a loss to Youngstown State.
- GB outshot YSU 29-11.
- Stoeckmann scored her first goal of the season and her Phoenix career.
- Senah Hanes added her first assist of the season in her return to the lineup on Thursday.
