GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Green Bay men's soccer team tied with IU Indy 0-0 in a Horizon League match Saturday afternoon at Aldo Santaga Stadium. It was Alumni Day at Green Bay, with the Phoenix honoring the 1975 and 1977 teams that both made NCAA DII Final Four appearances.
Aleks Pituch nearly broke the scoreless tie in the 85th minute, but his shot went just wide left. Green Bay moved to 4-3-1 and 1-1-1 in Horizon League action. IU Indy moved to 4-3-3 and 1-1-1 in HL play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Phoenix goalkeeper Phillip Oesterbaek had an early save from a shot attempt by Nathaniel Isom in the third minute that kept the game tied. IU Indy only attempted two shots the rest of the half after its early opportunity. Green Bay attempted seven shots in the first half; however, none were on goal.
Each team had multiple opportunities to tie the match in the final moments, including Pituch.
Luke Nicholson took a shot on goal in the 88
th minute, but Jaguar goalkeeper Cameron Maung-Maung made the save. In a last-chance effort, Marcus Danh-Khoa Nguyen took a shot but missed it over the top of the Phoenix crossbar in the final minute.
GAME NOTES
- Green Bay outshot IU Indy 16-6 and 4-2 in shots on goal
- There were seven yellow cards in the match, four on GB and three on IU Indy
- Chris Album led all players between the teams with five shots and two shots on goal
COMING UP
The Phoenix is home next Saturday in a Horizon League match against Oakland. The match is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT. Oakland enters with one point, while Green Bay has four in the Horizon League standings.
