Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Phoenix Falls at Youngstown State 88-81

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Green Bay men's basketball team dropped a Horizon League road game Thursday night, falling to Youngstown State 88-81.

Green Bay (11-10, 6-4) had four players score in double figures, led by C.J. O'Hara, who collected 22 points, while Marcus Hall had 20. Justin Allen added 14 points, and Preston Ruedinger also contributed with 12 points, six rebounds, and five assists.

Youngstown State (10-11, 3-8) was led by a game-high 34 points from Cris Carroll, who shot an efficient 11-of-16 from the field, including 8-of-12 from three. Rich Rolf and Bryson Dawkins also added 15 points apiece to help lead the Penguins to the win.

HEAD COACH DOUG GOTTLIEB
"I would like to congratulate Youngstown on a tremendous performance. Our guys knew how often and well the Penguins shot the ball, and yet we simply did not defend the three-point line well enough. Factor in some extra possessions due to turnovers and offensive rebounds, and the math was too much to overcome. I'm proud of our fight and some lineup changes we had to make to get back into the game, but we have to clean up our errors as every Horizon League game is decided by who makes the fewest mistakes."

HOW IT HAPPENED
After falling behind 27-18, Green Bay rattled off a 9-0 run with 7:35 left in the first half, finished off by a bucket from Justin Allen, to tie the game at 27. Youngstown State reasserted control, outscoring the Phoenix 11-5 the rest of the half to take a 38-32 lead into the break.

Youngstown State used that momentum and continued to widen the lead after the break, constructing a 57-41 lead. Green Bay fought back, responding with a 5-0 run, finished off by Hall's three, to shrink the deficit to 57-46 with 12:49 to go in the contest. Green Bay attempted a late comeback but couldn't bring the YSU lead to less than seven, as the Penguins cruised to the 88-81 win.

GAME NOTES
» Youngstown State slightly outrebounded Green Bay 28-26, including 10-7 on the offensive glass.
» The Penguins converted 16 three pointers compared to Green Bay's seven.
» Green Bay got a team-high six rebounds from Preston Ruedinger.

ON THE HORIZON
Green Bay will travel to Robert Morris for a Horizon League contest on Saturday at 1 p.m. CST, before returning home for a pair of games against Cleveland State and Wright State next weekend.
