Guyer and Skorupski Notch Double-Doubles in Win over Wright State

GREEN BAY, Wis. – Jenna Guyer and Maddy Skorupski each recorded double-doubles to help lead the Green Bay women's basketball team past the Wright State Raiders 66-52 at home Thursday. Guyer has had double-doubles in back-to-back games and in three out of the last four. Kamy Peppler eclipsed the 500-career assist mark in the game. The Phoenix has now won 10 straight games.

The Phoenix (18-5, 13-0) had three players score in double figures, led by Guyer, who had a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Meghan Schultz added 12 points, and Skorupski chipped in with a double-double, 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Green Bay did a stellar job taking care of the basketball, dishing out 21 assists while turning the ball over just six times. Individually, Peppler was on top of the distribution list for the Phoenix with eight assists. Carley Duffney also added four.

The Green Bay defense was effective at taking away the basketball in Thursday's game, forcing 13 Wright State turnovers. Those takeaways turned into 12 points on the other end of the floor. Guyer's two steals led the way individually for the Phoenix.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After falling behind 7-4, Green Bay went on a 9-0 run with 6:10 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Schultz, to take a 13-7 lead. The Phoenix then added two points to that lead by the end of the period and entered the quarter break with a 15-7 advantage. Green Bay did most of its first-quarter damage in the paint, scoring 10 of its 15 points close to the basket.

Green Bay kept its first-quarter lead intact before going on a 7-0 run starting at the 9:17 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Skorupski, to increase its lead to 22-7. The Phoenix once again got a last-second buzzer beater from Skorupski to extend the halftime lead to 33-15.

Green Bay preserved that lead before going on another 7-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Guyer, to expand its lead further to 53-28 with 1:05 to go in the third quarter. The Raiders had ended the run with a buzzer beater of their own in the third quarter, but the Phoenix still entered the fourth quarter with a 53-30 edge.

That lead shrank by the time the fourth quarter ended, but the Phoenix cruised to a 66-52 win.
