Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Peppler's Buzzer-Beater Leads Green Bay over Robert Morris, 61-58

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Kamy Peppler hit a buzzer-beating three-pointer as time expired to lead the Green Bay women's basketball team over the Robert Morris Colonials 61-58 on the road Thursday. Peppler also hit the game-tying three with just 11 seconds to go.

The Phoenix (19-5, 14-0) had three players score in double figures, led by Maddy Skorupski, who had 13 points, six rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Meghan Schultz tacked on 12 points and two blocks, and Jenna Guyer helped out with 12 points.

The Green Bay offense was very productive from downtown, hitting nine threes on 22 attempts. Guyer was the most prolific shooter for the Phoenix, draining four shots from deep in the contest.

HEAD COACH KAYLA KARIUS
"We had a battle on our hands today, and we certainly didn't start the game out strong. Give credit to RMU, who was aggressive and tough all game long, especially on the glass. We responded very well in the second quarter and made the right plays down the stretch. We continue to have areas to improve on, but I thought we were resilient today and found a way to get the job done."

HOW IT HAPPENED
Green Bay struggled out of the gate, falling behind 19-2 by the end of the first quarter.

Green Bay responded in a big way in the second and cut the Colonials lead to 25-18 before going on a 5-0 run, highlighted by a bucket from Skorupski, to narrow the deficit to 25-23. The Phoenix was unable to narrow the gap any further, but did not lose ground either and entered halftime down 30-28.

Robert Morris built a 39-36 advantage before Green Bay went on another 5-0 run, punctuated by a three from Guyer, to grab a 41-39 lead with 4:33 to go in the third. The Colonials then rallied to tie it at 42 all heading into the fourth quarter. Green Bay knocked down three three-pointers in the quarter to score nine of its 14 total points.

Robert Morris snagged a 45-42 advantage before Green Bay responded by going on a 9-0 run, finished off by Gracie Grzesk's jumper, to seize a 51-45 lead with 7:41 to go in the contest. The Colonials rallied and moved in front of the Phoenix to lead 58-55 with 30 seconds left in the game. Peppler gave a response, burying a three with 11 seconds remaining to force the tie. After a Colonial miss on the other end, the Phoenix called timeout with just 1.7 seconds left on the clock. Peppler came off a screen at the top of the key and caught the inbound from Lily Hansford, knocking down the game-winning shot from 25 feet to beat the buzzer and move the Phoenix to 14-0 in the Horizon League.
