Phoenix Clinches Share of Horizon League Title with Win at Youngstown State

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Jenna Guyer hit a three-pointer with 16 seconds remaining in the game to put the Green Bay women's basketball team up for good in a 54-51 win against the Youngstown State Penguins on the road Saturday to clinch the No. 1 seed and a share of the Horizon League Regular Season title.

The Phoenix (20-5, 15-0) had two players score in double figures, led by Guyer, who had 16 points, seven rebounds, and four assists. Meghan Schultz added 14 points, and Kamy Peppler added seven points, five assists, and two steals.
Green Bay shared the ball well in Saturday's game, racking up 15 assists on 20 made field goals. Peppler's five assists led the Phoenix individually.

Green Bay's defense held Youngstown State to only 36.7-percent shooting from the field, including 17.2-percent from beyond the arc. The Phoenix also limited Erica King to 5-of-17 shooting in the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After jumping out to a 14-11 advantage, Green Bay went on a 5-0 run with 3:19 left in the first quarter to increase its lead to 19-11. The Phoenix then lost some of that lead but still entered the quarter break with a 21-15 advantage.

The Phoenix maintained their lead in the game's second frame and entered halftime with a 32-31 edge. Green Bay dominated in the paint, scoring eight of its 11 points close to the basket.

Green Bay surrendered its halftime lead until, with the game tied at 35-35, they went on a 7-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Schultz, to grab a 42-35 lead with 4:13 to go in the third. Before the conclusion of the third period, the Penguins had cut into that lead, but the Phoenix still entered the fourth quarter with a 42-39 edge.

Youngstown State proceeded to take a 51-46 lead with just over three minutes before Guyer went on a 5-0 run to tie the game 51-51 before she knocked down the game-winning three to clinch the 54-51 win.
