Green Bay Falls to Cleveland State 83-82 in Overtime

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Green Bay women's basketball team's winning streak was snapped at 12, as they fell to the Cleveland State Vikings 83-82 in overtime on the road Wednesday. It's the first Horizon League loss for the Phoenix this season.

The Phoenix (20-6, 15-1) had three players score in double figures, led by Maddy Skorupski, who had a season-high 25 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and two blocks. Kristina Ouimette added a career-high 18 points off the bench, and Jenna Guyer chipped in as well with 12 points, nine rebounds, and a career-high five blocks.

Green Bay did a great job disrupting Cleveland State shots in the contest, coming away with nine blocks. Guyer's five rejections led the way individually for the Phoenix.

The Vikings were led by three players with 20+ points: Colbi Maples (26), Izabella Zingaro (23), and Macey Fegan (21). Zingaro finished with a double-double, pulling down 11 rebounds with her 23 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After falling behind 13-8, Green Bay went on an 8-0 run with 3:17 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three-pointer from Gracie Grzesk, to take a 16-13 lead. Cleveland State responded and tied things up at 18-18 as the first quarter came to a close.

The Vikings then eked out an advantage in quarter number two as the Phoenix headed into the break trailing 34-30.

Cleveland State continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 41-32 advantage before Green Bay went on a 12-0 run, punctuated by a three from Ouimette, to grab a 44-41 lead with 3:39 to go in the third. The Vikings then rallied to tie it at 52-52 heading into the fourth quarter.

Despite taking the lead 12 times in the fourth, Green Bay was unable to pull out the victory in regulation, as the two teams entered overtime tied at 76-76 apiece. Jenna Guyer's last-second shot missed, sending the game into overtime.

Cleveland State edged ahead in overtime, leaving Green Bay behind 83-79, before a three from Kristina Ouimette pulled Green Bay within one point. After a missed three pointer from Maples, the Phoenix had possession once again, as Guyer put up what would've been the game-winning shot, but it rattled off the rim, giving the Vikings the win.
