Defense Dominates as Phoenix Takes Down Robert Morris

GREEN BAY, Wis. – It was a 2-0 weekend at the Kress Center for the Green Bay women's basketball team, as they downed Robert Morris 64-43 at home on Sunday.

The Phoenix (11-5, 6-0) had two players score in double figures, led by Jenna Guyer, who had 19 points, which is her fifth-straight game in double figures. Maddy Skorupski tacked on 11 points, six rebounds, and two steals. Kristina Ouimette and Carley Duffney each added eight points of their own.

Green Bay out-rebounded Robert Morris 42-35 in Sunday's game, paced by six boards from each from Ellie Buzzelle, Kamy Peppler, and Maddy Skorupski.

The Green Bay defense was a problem in Sunday's game, forcing 15 Robert Morris turnovers while committing 10. Those takeaways turned into 14 points on the other end of the floor. The Phoenix allowed just 10 Colonials points in the first half, the lowest total in a half this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Green Bay started out the scoring by going on a 10-0 run, culminating in a bucket from Guyer, to take an early 10-0 lead with 2:21 left in the first quarter. The Phoenix then lost some of that lead but still entered the quarter break with a 10-6 advantage. Green Bay did all of its damage in the paint in the first.

Green Bay kept its first-quarter lead intact before going on a 14-0 run starting at the 8:51 mark in the second period that was punctuated by a three from Guyer, to increase its lead to 24-6. The Phoenix proceeded to tack on four points to that lead and enjoyed a 32-10 advantage heading into halftime.

Following intermission, Green Bay continued to expand its advantage, pushing it to 40-17 before going on a 6-0 run to expand its lead further to 46-17 with 3:14 to go in the third. Before the conclusion of the third, the Colonials cut into that lead, but the Phoenix hit yet another buzzer beater in the form of a three pointer from Kristina Ouimette, and entered the fourth quarter with a 53-27 edge.

The Phoenix held on for the victory the rest of the way. Green Bay got a boost from its bench in the period, with non-starters scoring seven of its 11 total points, and closed it out 64-23.
