Skorupski and Guyer Lead Green Bay to End-To-End Win over Oakland

ROCHESTER, Mich. - Maddy Skorupski scored 21 points against her former team, and Jenna Guyer added 20 of her own as the Green Bay women's basketball team beat the Oakland Golden Grizzlies 78-63 on the road Thursday.

The Phoenix (12-5, 7-0) had three players score in double figures, led by Skorupski's forementioned 21 points, to go with eight assists and two steals. The reigning Horizon League Player of the Week, Jenna Guyer, tacked on 20 points, nine rebounds, and five assists, and Carley Duffney chipped in as well with a season-high 17 points.

Green Bay moved the ball well in Thursday's game, piling up 23 assists on 30 made field goals. Skorupski's eight assists led the way for the Phoenix.

HEAD COACH KAYLA KARIUS
"We're proud of our team for toughing out a road win tonight. It was imperative for us to win the battle of the boards and our team executed that. Jenna gave us a great lift in the first half and then Carley and Maddy, playing back in her hometown, were tough to stop in the second half. It was a team effort though and we will continue to strive to put together four complete quarters moving forward."

HOW IT HAPPENED
After jumping out to an 8-7 advantage, Green Bay went on an 8-0 run with 4:56 left in the first quarter to increase its lead to 16-7. The Phoenix then added three points to that lead by the end of the period and entered the quarter break with a 21-9 advantage after a Guyer three at the buzzer. She scored 11 of her 20 points in the first quarter.

The Phoenix maintained their lead in the game's second frame and entered halftime with a 38-27 edge. Green Bay was strong from deep in the period, knocking down three three-point shots to account for nine of its 17 points. Kamy Peppler led the Phoenix with seven first-half rebounds.

Following intermission, Green Bay continued to expand its advantage, pushing it to 44-30 before going on a 6-0 run to expand its lead further to 50-30 with 6:06 to go in the third. Before the conclusion of the third period, the Golden Grizzlies had cut into that lead somewhat, but the Phoenix still entered the fourth quarter with a 59-40 edge. Green Bay played well near the basket, scoring 12 of its 21 points in the paint.

The Phoenix then held on for the victory in the fourth quarter. Oakland outscored GB 23-19 in the frame, but it was not enough to mount a comeback as the Phoenix stayed unbeaten in league play.
