GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Green Bay men's basketball team defeated Detroit Mercy 76-63 Saturday afternoon at the Resch Center.
The Phoenix (14-12, 9-6) had five players score in double figures, led by C.J. O'Hara, who had 17 points, seven rebounds, and two steals. Caden Wilkins added 14 points, and Marcus Hall chipped in as well with 13 points and two steals. LeBron Thomas had 11 points, and Preston Ruedinger added 10 points to round out the five double-figure scorers for the Phoenix.
Green Bay pulled down 39 rebounds in Saturday's game compared to Detroit Mercy's 33, led by O'Hara's seven boards. The Phoenix also cleaned up the offensive glass, turning 13 rebounds into 15 second-chance points.
TJ Nadeau led Detroit Mercy (10-13, 7-7) with 20 points, including 4-of-5 from three-point range. Orlando Lovejoy added 13 points and five rebounds. Tyler Spratt also contributed with 11 points and six rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After jumping out to a 10-9 advantage, Green Bay went on a 9-0 run, capped off by an O'Hara layup with 9:53 left in the first half to increase its lead to 19-9. The Phoenix outscored Detroit Mercy 18-12 the rest of the half to give themselves a 37-21 lead going into the break.
The Phoenix was up 46-33 before Detroit Mercy ripped off a 9-0 run, including two three-pointers from Spratt to cut the deficit to 46-42 with 11:20 to go. However, Green Bay responded with an 8-0 run of their own, finished off by a Thomas layup to increase the lead to 54-42 with 8:40 remaining in the game. The Phoenix coasted the remainder of the way, earning a 76-63 victory.
