Back-to-Back-to-Back! Green Bay Women's Basketball Wins Third-Straight Horizon League Title

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Phoenix is going dancing once again! The Green Bay women's basketball team is the back-to-back-to-back Horizon League Tournament Champions after taking down Youngstown State 57-49 Tuesday afternoon at Corteva Coliseum in Indianapolis, Ind.

Green Bay is now a 19-time Horizon League Tournament Champion and will make its 21st NCAA Tournament appearance next week.

The Phoenix had two players score in double figures, led by the Horizon League Championships MVP, Jenna Guyer, who finished with 21 points and two blocks. Maddy Skorupski, who was also named to the Horizon League All-Tournament Team, tacked on 13 points, six rebounds, and five steals. Kamy Peppler stuffed the stat sheet as well, adding five points, six rebounds, eight assists, and four steals.

The Green Bay defense held Youngstown State shooters to only 38.5-percent from the field, including 23.1-percent from three-point range.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Green Bay started out the scoring with a 5-0 run, culminating in a three-pointer from Skorupski, to take the early lead in the first two minutes of the first quarter. The Phoenix then surrendered that lead after a layup from Sophia Gregory put the Penguins in front 9-7, and Green Bay entered the second quarter down 11-9.

The Phoenix was outscored slightly in the second quarter and faced a 28-25 halftime deficit.

Following halftime, Green Bay kept the Penguins from growing their lead before going on a 6-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Carley Duffney, to grab a 40-37 lead with 1:36 to go in the third. Paulina Hernandez of Youngstown State answered with a layup to end the run, but the Phoenix still entered the fourth quarter with a 40-39 edge. Green Bay played well near the basket, scoring 10 of its 15 points in the paint.

Youngstown State proceeded to take a 43-42 lead after another score from Hernandez before Green Bay went on a 9-0 run, finished off by Peppler's layup, to seize a 51-43 lead with 2:39 to go in the contest. That lead was maintained down the stretch, giving the Phoenix its third-straight Horizon League title.
