Women's Basketball Adds Jorey Buwalda

GREEN BAY, Wis. – On Friday afternoon, the Green Bay women's basketball team and head coach Kayla Karius announced the addition of Jorey Buwalda. Buwalda, the Randolph, Wis., native, will join the Phoenix after spending the last three seasons with the Milwaukee Panthers.

Buwalda was named a Horizon All-League Third Team selection after averaging a team-best 12.1 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. The 6'0" forward saw time in 31 of Milwaukee's 32 games, and racked up nine double-doubles on the season. Buwalda also made key contributions for the Panthers in other areas, finishing the season with 51 assists, 23 blocks, and 22 steals. She was solid at the line as well, where she made a team-high 120 attempts, sinking 94 of them (78.3-percent).

"We're thrilled to welcome Jorey to Green Bay," said Karius. "She's a proven performer in this league, specifically in scoring and rebounding, and her strong inside presence will make an immediate impact. We're confident she'll fit seamlessly into our program and culture."

In her first collegiate season, Buwalda was named to the Horizon League All-Freshman Team in 2023-24. During her rookie campaign, the guard forward appeared in 31 games, starting seven of them, and averaged 7.7 points to go with 5.5 rebounds per game.

"I chose to continue my academic and athletic career at Green Bay because they made me feel like more than just a basketball player," Buwalda added. "The coaching staff welcomed me with open arms, as well as the players. They were all super genuine, and those are the people that I want to surround myself with. I love Green Bay's style of play, how much the team and community are involved with each other, as well as the atmosphere. When I came to campus, I knew this was where I wanted to finish out my collegiate career. It is so much deeper than basketball, and I am glad that I get to be a part of that and experience that."

Buwalda had a standout career at Randolph High School, including a WIAA Division 5 Girls Basketball Championship in 2022. Over her career at Randolph, she helped the team to over 90 wins and finished her tenure with 1,926 points along with 1,048 rebounds, 226 assists, 237 steals, and 109 blocks. Buwalda was named a WBCA First Team All-State selection for three seasons, was selected as an Associated Press All-State honoree in 2021-22, and was the Trailways West Player of the Year in both 2021-22 and 2022-23.
