JC Banks has been selected as the Horizon League Player and Offensive Player of
the Year while four other members of the Green Bay men's soccer team have been
selected to the All-Horizon League teams.
Banks is the first student-athlete in Green Bay men's soccer
history to be named the Horizon League Player of the year and the second to
receive the Offensive Player of the Year award. The junior leads the league in
goals (13), goals per game (0.76), points (34), points per game (2.00), shots
(59) and is tied for first in assists (8). In addition Banks was named Horizon
League Athlete of the Week in consecutive periods.
"JC has been great for us all year and it is nice for him
and our program that he gets recognized for his performance this year. He is a
testament to what hard work will do for you," said head coach Tom Poitras.
In addition to Banks, junior David Prochazka (Gothenburg,
Sweden), sophomore Tony Walls (Wauwatosa, Wis.) and senior David Znaty (Hadera,
Israel) were named to the First Team All-Horizon League while freshman Ryan Wehking (St. Louis, Mo.) was named to the league All-Newcomer Team.
Prochazka led the league in assists per game (0.62) and tied
for first in assists (8) through 13 games of play before suffering a groin
injury Oct. 30 against Wisconsin, "David is our leader and sets the tone for
our team, providing us with a tremendous amount of confidence in the back,"
said Poitras.
Walls is second on the team in shots on goal (17), shots
(44) and finished the league seventh in shots and shots per game (2.59). Walls
also had a league high nine shots in Green Bay's 1-0 win at Pittsburgh on Sep.
11, "Tony is the anchor of our team; as he goes, Green Bay goes," said Poitras.
Znaty finished second in the league in points (18), points
per game (1.12) and third in goals (7) and goals per game (0.44), "David is
having his best year in his final season scoring some big goals for us and is a
big reason we are having the year we are," said Poitras.
Wehking led the league with eight shutouts and finished the
regular season with three consecutive shutouts, "Ryan is very deserving of his
newcomer honors. He continues to grow as the season progresses, which is great
for us heading into the Horizon League tournament as well as the future of our
program," said Poitras.
