HOUGHTON, Mich. - After
having last weekend's meet cancelled due to lack of snow, the men's and women's
Nordic Ski team kicked of their season this weekend with the Michigan Tech
Challenge.
Green Bay senior Santi Ocariz (Spooner, Wis.) won the 10K
race in a time of 30:02 while Nick Maki (Aurora, Minn.) came in eighth place in
a time of 32:16.
Sophomore Jeff Cook (Rhinelander, Wis.) completed the course
in 33:31 to finish in the top half of the race with 14th place.
On the women's side junior Carolyn Freeman (Ely, Minn.) was the
top finisher for Green Bay as she crossed the line in fourth place with a time
of 17:59. Lindsey Marshall (Shoreview, Minn.) finished the 5K course in a time
of 18:47 for eighth place.
Northern Michigan was the winner of the combined-team
competition with 39 points, Michigan Tech came in second with 26 while Green
Bay was third with 25 points (13 men, 12 women).
The Phoenix will compete at the Wausau JOQ next weekend all
day Saturday and Sunday.
