DULUTH, Minn. – The Green Bay Nordic Ski team was in action this past weekend at the College of St. Scholastica CCSA Qualifier in Duluth, Minn. at the Spirit Mountain Nordic Center. The Phoenix finished fifth with 90 total points on the weekend.
The event started with the 7.5K Classic Individual Start on Saturday. The men were led by a 23
rd-place finish (19:34.7) from
Ryan Thieme, a 25
th-place finish (19:38.6) for
Noah Erickson, and a 31
st-place finish (20:11.5) for
CJ Young.
On the women's side, GB was led by an 18
th-place finish (23:48.7) from
Hedda Samuelsson, a 19
th-place finish (23:49.2) from
Silje Busklein, and
Grace Nemeth finishing in 31
st (24:56.8) to round out the top three for the Phoenix.
The weekend was wrapped up with the 20K Freestyle Mass Start, led by a top 15 finish on the men's side from
Ryan Thieme. He finished 13
th with a time of 55:05.0.
Grant Rocheleau and
Zaine Braaten followed that up with 23
rd and 27
th-place finishes. The strong finishes from Rocheleau and Braaten scored points for Green Bay, the first time they've done so as Phoenix.
Samuelsson led the women again on Sunday, crossing the finish line in 1:07:45.0 for a 20
th-place finish.
Kiera Rotar was the second Phoenix to finish, coming in 26
th with a time of 1:10:15.4.
Chelsey Johnson rounded out the GB top three with a time of 1:15:28.2 for a 31
st-place finish.
Green Bay will have a weekend off before heading to the CCSA Conference Championships on Feb. 15-16 at Tech Trails in Houghton, Mich. The event will be hosted by Michigan Tech.
