HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Green Bay Nordic Ski team took fourth in both races this past weekend at the MTU Invite in Houghton, Michigan. The races were hosted by Michigan Tech at the Tech Trails.
The 5K Classic Individual Start took place on Saturday, with the 20K Skate Mass Start taking place on Sunday.
On Saturday, the men were paced by a personal-best ninth-place finish by
Grant Rocheleau, who completed the 5K in 15:15.6. Rounding out the top 10 was Green Bay's
Noah Erickson, who finished in 15:17.1.
Ivar Dragerengen rounded out GB's top three finishers, crossing the finish line 14th with a time of 15:39.8.
The women were led by a top three of
Lizzie Sonnefelt,
Lilly Franzen, and
Silje Busklein. Sonnefelt finished 13th with a time of 18:14.7, Franzen finished 16th with a 18:22.4, and Busklein came in 23rd with a 19:10.2.
The Phoenix men were once again led by a top-10 finish, this time a ninth place from
Cameron Cruickshank, who finished the 20K in 55:58.5. Erickson and Rocheleau were the next two crossing the finish for GB, placing 12th and 16th respectively. Erickson finished in 56:23.3 while Rocheleau did so in 57:04.7.
On Sunday, the women were led by a top three of Franzen, Sonnefelt, and
Jenna Johnson. Franzen finished 16th with a 1:06.56, Sonnefelt finished 18th with a 1:06:29.6, while Johnson finished 23rd with a 1:08:08.8.
The Phoenix will have a weekend off before heading to the CCSA Conference Championships in Minneapolis, Minn., from Feb. 14-15.
