GREEN BAY, Wis. - Former Green Bay Phoenix men's soccer standout Tosaint Ricketts (2005-08) has been called up to Canada's national team for an international friendly match against Cyprus this Saturday in Larnaca, Cyprus. It marked the first time Ricketts was named to the national roster.
Canada's head coach Stephen Hart said the 17 players on his initial roster will have the chance to prove themselves in order to get the call to play for the CONCACAF Gold Cup in July.
Previously, Ricketts played for Canada's U-23 team in 2008 and was a scoring star for the U-20 squad during the 2007 campaign. In April, he signed a professional contract with Finland's Myllykosken Pallo-47, and recently scored his first career goal against Helsinki, which proved to be a game-winner.
In his senior season at Green Bay, Ricketts led the Phoenix with eight goals, including three game-winners, and two assists for 18 points. For his four year career, the two-time first-team all-Horizon League selection tallied 26 goals (11 being game-winning goals) and five assists for 57 points.
While a number of former Phoenix players have gone on to play professionally, Ricketts becomes the first Green Bay soccer alum to be named to a full national team roster.
