CHICAGO, Ill. - Coming off a 3-3 tie against ninth-ranked Northwestern on Tuesday, the Green Bay men's soccer team began their five game road trip with a win Saturday at Wish Field against at DePaul University.

"We had a very good team approach playing in a really difficult environment," said head coach Tom Poitras.

DePaul (0-2-0) struck first with a goal by Matt Leinauer in the seventh minute to give the Blue Demons a 1-0 advantage. Green Bay (1-0-1) battled until the 30th minute before JC Banks (Milwaukee, Wis.) scored his second goal of the season to tie it up 1-1. Banks' goal came off a free kick hitting the top left side of the post before going into the net, "JC found ways to have a major impact on the game," said Poitras.

With just 0:08 left in the period, yellow cards were handed out to DePaul's Matt Leinauer and Green Bay's Tony Walls (Wauwatosa, Wis.). Both teams had five shots on goal for the period while Green Bay led in cornerkicks (3-1).

Within 18 minutes into the second period Walls scored his first goal of the season with a header off a free kick from the right side giving the Phoenix the 2-1 lead and their first win of the season, "The guys solved the game in the second half and put together a solid performance and our center backs had alot to do with that," said Poitras.

The Phoenix finished the game with 15 total shots compared to DePaul's seven. Redshirt freshman goalie Ryan Wehking (St. Louis, Mo.) had four saves in the game for the Phoenix.

Green Bay makes their second stop on their five game road trip in Western Michigan on Monday with kickoff set for noon.
