GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) -
Senior men's
tennis player Fabian Gogolin (Cologne,
Germany) is nearing the end of his career as a Green
Bay student-athlete.
"I enjoyed my
time here, but I am ready for something different and I am looking forward to
some new challenges," said Gogolin.
Gogolin
transferred from the University of Cologne and began his career in the fall of
2009 with two years of eligibility remaining. Being a collegiate athlete was a
new experience for Gogolin since there are no collegiate sports in Germany,
only club sports. Before he came to Green Bay, he played for the largest club
team in Cologne called Rot-Weiss Koeln.
"Since we do not
have collegiate sports, tennis here is a great experience," said Gogolin. "In Germany, if you are playing on a club
team, you only play tennis. Here in Green Bay, tennis is not only about the
competition but also about the relationships formed within the team."
Despite the
changes associated with a different country, Gogolin quickly found success both
athletically and academically.
During the
2009-2010 season, Gogolin achieved an overall singles record of 10-12 at the top
three positions and a doubles record of 10-11 at the No. 1 position.
In addition to
his achievements on the court, Gogolin has also excelled in the classroom. He has
maintained a perfect GPA of 4.0 while pursing a major in business administration
with an emphasis in finance and a minor in economics.
"After graduation, I am going to go back to
Germany and then either attend graduate school for finance in Germany or
somewhere in the United States," said Gogolin.
