CABLE, Wis. - The
men's and women's nordic ski team wrapped up qualifying competition for the
CCSA by competing in the Central Super Tour race at Telemark Ski Resort in
Cable, Wis. over the weekend.
In the men's 10k classic race on Saturday senior Santiago
Ocariz (Spooner, Wis.) finished a minute off the lead to settle for second
place with a time of 30:27. Teammates Nick Maki (Aurora, Minn.) finished in 22nd
place while Jeff Cook (Rhinelander, Wis.) crossed the line in 28th place
to score points for the Phoenix. As a team Green Bay finished fourth with 59
points.
In the women's 5k race Saturday, Carolyn Freeman (Ely,
Minn.) captured second-place honors with a time of 17:38 while teammate Lindsey Marshall (Shoreview, Minn.) had a solid 12th place finish to help
the Phoenix finish in third place.
In Sunday's 15k freestyle event, Ocariz improved on his
second place finish Saturday to claim the top spot finishing the course in
39:09. Maki had a solid 18th place finish in a time of 42:14 to help
the Phoenix finish in fourth place.
Two skiers placed in the top seven for the women as Green
Bay captured third-place honors as a team. Like Saturday, Freeman was the top
finisher for Green Bay completing the course fourth with a time of 32:00 while
Marshall was 24 seconds in seventh place.
Green Bay will have two weeks to prepare for the CCSA
Championships held in Ishpeming, Mich. Feb. 13-14.
