FORT WAYNE,
Ind. - The Green Bay men's tennis team ran its winning streak to three matches
with a 5-2 win at IPFW on Saturday. The win pushed the Phoenix to 5-4 on the season.
The Phoenix won three tight doubles matches to claim the opening
point. It gave Green Bay an early cushion, but one that the team proved it didn't
need, as it took four of the six singles matches as well. Green Bay has won at
least four singles tilts in each outing during its winning skein.
Green Bay
notched wins at each of the top three spots on Saturday. Matt Clegg (Stevens
Point, Wis.) moved into the top position and proved himself worthy, cruising to
a 6-1, 6-3 victory. At No. 2, Paul Swanson (Coon Rapids, Minn.) battled back
from an opening-set loss to claim another victory (6-7, 6-0, 6-4).
Fabian Gogolin
(Cologne, Germany) continued the top-flight dominance with a 6-2, 6-2 win in
the third slot. The final Green Bay winner was Marko Skoric (Zagreb, Croatia),
who dispatched his foe 7-6, 6-2.
Green Bay plays
its third match in as many days Sunday at 11 a.m. when it plays at Ball State.
