Green Bay Wins Fifth Straight and Moves into First Place Tie in League Play

VALPARAISO, Ind. - The Green Bay (23-3, 12-3) women's basketball team continued to take care of what they need to in these final two weeks of the regular season, winning. The Phoenix beat Valparaiso (7-19, 4-11) 69-44 putting it in a tie with Butler for first place in the Horizon League standings.

"We're just going to enjoy this win tonight and not think about Butler until tomorrow; tonight was a really good, tough fought win for us and we're going to enjoy it," said Heather Golden. "Yeah there's a lot at stake Saturday but we can't put too much pressure on ourselves," added Golden.

Green Bay got off to a great start with Julie Wojta (Mishicot, Wis.) scoring 10 points in the first eight minutes of play while Heather Golden (De Pere, Wis.) tied a career high five rebounds in the first half alone. The Phoenix shot 53.3 percent in the first half scoring 22 points in the paint to lead 38-21 at the break.

The Phoenix didn't let up in the second half as Celeste Hoewisch (Hortonville, Wis.) poured in 13 of her game high 21 points, "I'm just playing with a lot of confidence in myself and this team and I feel our defense is really carrying our offense," said Hoewisch.

Wojta chipped in 14 while Horizon League Player of the Week Kayla Tetschlag (Sheboygan, Wis.) finished with nine points and five rebounds. Golden finished with a career and game high seven boards. The Phoenix shot 49.2 percent from the field scoring 44 points in the paint, "That's a stat we really pride ourselves on (points in the paint) I really like our options offensively with Celeste being able to get points on the blocks in addition to our post players," said Bollant.

Saturday's game at Butler will decide first place in the Horizon League standings heading into the final two games of the regular season, "I tell our team this is what we play for, a conference championship, it's such an exciting week for us and hopefully we'll be able to do that Saturday as well" said head coach Matt Bollant. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m. CT at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
