Green Bay Improves to 4-1 at Rebel Spring Games

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Green Bay (7-2) women's softball team continued their success at the Rebel Spring Games picking up an early morning 4-1 win over Akron (6-7) followed by a 15-4 win over Rider in five innings.

It was scoreless until the top of the third against Akron until Sara Junion (Sevastopol, Wis.) had an RBI single scoring Jenna Nitti (Green Bay, Wis.), putting Green Bay on the board 1-0. 

In the fifth Melani Niederer (New Munster, Wis.) scored an unearned run to increase Green Bay's lead to 2-0. Sophomore Alli Rivera (Geneseo, Ill.) added an RBI single to score Danielle Peerenboom (Kimberly, Wis.) and Sara Junion (Sevastopol, Wis.) boosting Green Bay's lead to 4-0.

Akron's lone run came in the bottom of the sixth inning on a SAC fly to center field. Green Bay senior Andrea Pigeon (Sheboygan, Wis.) pitched a complete game allowing one run on four hits while striking out four batters.

Green Bay later dominated Rider University with a 15-4 win in five innings scoring 12 runs off nine hits in the first inning. The Phoenix added two more in the top of the fourth while senior Katie Cooney (Moline, Ill.) hit a solo homerun to left center field to make it 15-4. Cooney also got the win on the mound for the Phoenix.

Green Bay will have the day off tomorrow before taking on Colgate and Marist Wednesday afternoon.
