KISSIMMEE, Fla. - After winning four straight at the Rebel Spring Games, the Green Bay (7-3) softball team fell 7-8 to Colgate (11-3) Wednesday afternoon but bounced back with a dominant 17-5 win over Marist (1-11).
Colgate had a game-winning sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning to seal the 8-7 victory over the Phoenix in its first game of the day.
Green Bay jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first when senior Krissy Hanson (Arcadia, Wis.) hit a solo home run followed by Alli Rivera's (Geneseo, Ill.) RBI double scoring Katie Cooney (East Moline, Ill.). Colgate answered with five runs off three hits and three Green Bay errors in the bottom of the first to take the 5-2 lead.
Rivera had a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning to pull the Phoenix within two before Hanson added a sacrifice fly in the in the fifth to make it 5-4 in favor of Colgate.
Colgate added two more runs in the sixth to go up 7-4 before Green Bay poured in three runs off two hits and two errors to tie it up at seven a piece before Colgate's sacrifice fly to score the game winning run, snapping Green Bay's four-game winning streak.
In the matinee Marist jumped out to an early 3-0 lead before the Phoenix got their bats rolling scoring 11 runs off six hits in the bottom of third. Cooney had two RBIs off a single to right center field. Sara Junion (Sevastopol, Wis.) added an RBI double to left center field. Green Bay scored five unearned runs in the inning to take an 11-4 lead.
Junion added a two-run RBI double in the fourth as the Phoenix scored six runs off five hits to win 17-5 in five innings.
