Softball Improves to 7-2 at Rebel Spring Games

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Green Bay (10-3) softball team picked up right where they left off last night at the Rebel Spring Games with a 5-0 win over Saint Peters and a 6-5 victory over Army.

The Phoenix faced St. Peters this morning as it scored two runs in the second inning to put Green Bay on the board. The first run came off a sacrifice fly from freshman Danielle Peerenboom (Kimberly, Wis.) to left field driving in Katie Cooney (East Moline, Ill.) to make it 1-0. Kendra Woepse (Manitowoc, Wis.) added an RBI single up the middle to drive in Alli Rivera (Geneseo, Ill.) giving Green Bay the 2-0 lead.

Peerenboom hit a solo homerun to left center field in the sixth inning to add to Green Bay's lead as the Phoenix shut out the Peahens 5-0 with nine hits.

Army was the next victim of the Phoenix bats as Green Bay came from behind to score four runs off three hits in the second inning. Krissy Hanson (Arcadia, Wis.) had a two-run RBI double in the inning scoring Jenna Nitti (Green Bay, Wis.) and Ashleigh Racer (Waterford, Wis.) to take a 4-3 lead.

The Black Knights tied the game up in the top of the third before Green Bay added two runs off two hits in the bottom of the third. Woepse had an RBI single to left field to score Peerenboom and make it 5-4. With two outs Racer scored on a wild pitch before Army threatened with another run off three hits in the top of the fifth.

Green Bay will wrap up its competition in the Rebel Spring Games on Friday against Brown and Columbia.
