CHICAGO, Ill. - The
Green Bay (19-14, 5-8) softball team lost a pair of extra inning games in today's
double-header at UIC (13-29, 6-6) falling 2-1 in 11 innings in game one of a
six-game road stretch followed by a 5-4 loss in eight innings.
In game one the Flames offense struck first after allowing
Green Bay only two hits through the first five innings before scoring with two
outs in the bottom of the inning off an RBI single to shortstop.
The Phoenix rallied in the seventh with one out when Alli Rivera (Geneseo, Ill.) hit an RBI double to right center field scoring Dani
Peerenboom (Kimberly, Wis.) to tie it up 1-1 and force extra innings.
Green Bay had one hit in the four extra innings of play
while leaving two runners on base. With one out and two runners on base in the
bottom of the 11th, UIC hit an RBI to left center field to seal the
2-1 victory.
The Phoenix finished game one of the double-header with one
run off five hits.
Green Bay jumped off to a quick start in game two with a
three-run homer to right field from Peerenboom.
After scoring a run in the bottom of the first, the Flames
held Green Bay scoreless with one hit through three innings of play before the
Phoenix added the go-ahead run in the top of the fifth. Junior Sara Junion
(Sevastopol, Wis.) hit an RBI double to right center field scoring Kendra Woepse
(Manitowoc, Wis.) making it 4-3.
With two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning UIC scored
an unearned run to tie the game (4-4) and force extra innings.
Green Bay stranded one runner on base in the eighth before
UIC hit an RBI single to left field hitting home back to back wins over the
Phoenix.
Errors were the achilles heel in game two for the Phoenix
who committed six with four runs off eight hits. Green Bay will wrap up its
three-game series at UIC Thursday at 1:00 p.m.
