August 11, 2010 - Green
Bay men's soccer junior Tony Walls (Wauwatosa, Wis.) has been named to the
Hermann Trophy Watch List for the 2010 season. The Hermann Trophy is awarded
annually by the Missouri Athletic Club to the United States' top male and
female college soccer players.
The 5'10'' junior midfielder has consistently been a solid
player for the Phoenix throughout his career. Walls scored Green Bay's first
ever goal in the NCAA Tournament and was a First Team All-League selection last
season. In addition Walls was a NSCAA Great Lakes First Team All-Region
selection and All-State Team selection.
During his freshman season Walls was named the Horizon
League Newcomer of the Year and earned Second Team All-League honors.
The Watch List consists of 39 men's soccer players from the
around country, seven from the Great Lakes region. The process of selecting a
winner for the Hermann Trophy begins at the start of the season before being
narrowed down to 15 semifinalists.
Earlier this week the Phoenix also received votes in the
NSCAA preseason poll. Green Bay will open its season at home Wednesday, Sept. 1
as it hosts DePaul.
