Note: Throughout postseason play, Assistant Director of Athletics
Communications Jill
Wunrow will provide "Postseason Props" to a Phoenix player/players
she feels provided a spark in Green Bay's most recent game.
HORIZON LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP, (1) Green Bay 74, (2) Butler 63 - Championship game Postseason Props goes to the
quarterfinal props recipient Sarah Eichler
(Grafton, Wis.), who poured in a career-high 17 points in Sunday's 74-63 win over
Butler.
"My
turning point was at the Wright State game," said Eichler. "Kayla has been encouraging me to be more
aggressive and score more. She told me we're a better team when I threaten to
score so I'm just trying to do what's asked of me and help the team."
Sunday
was the third time in the last five contests Eichler scored in double figures, all 15
point or more performances. Eichler averaged 12 points per game throughout the
Horizon League Tournament while finishing with 36 points.
For
her efforts, Eichler was selected to the All-Tournament Team.
ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM... In addition to Eichler, teammates Kayla Tetschlag
(Sheboygan, Wis.) and Julie Wojta (Mishicot, Wis.) were also All-Tournament
Team selections while senior Celeste Hoewisch (Hortonville, Wis.) was
Tournament MVP.
TOURNAMENT RECORDS... The Phoenix broke four Horizon League Tournament
records during the three games, including combined points (258), margin of victory (89),
steals (39) and assists (67).
DANCING... Green Bay will be appearing in its 12th NCAA
Tournament. The Phoenix is 3-11 overall in the NCAA Tournament and 1-2 under
four-year head coach Matt Bollant. As a No. 12 seed, Green Bay defeated fifth-seeded Virginia 69-67 in the first round of the 2010 NCAA Tournament.
NCAA TOURNAMENT ENTRANCE... With Green Bay's automatic bid into the NCAA
Tournament, the Phoenix joins a list of 16 teams (including this year's Connecticut squad) in NCAA history to enter the
tournament with 30 or more wins and one or fewer losses. As history shows,
every team with the aforementioned stats has advanced to the Sweet 16, all but two reached the Final Four. Green Bay is the first team other than Connecticut and Tennessee to have at least 32 wins entering the NCAA Tournament.
SELECTION MONDAY...The Phoenix will
be featured live on Monday's NCAA
Selection Show, airing on ESPN from 6-7 p.m. CT.
The NCAA Tournament Send Off Celebration and the Selection Show Viewing Party will be held at the Kress
Center Monday at 5:30 p.m. with doors opening to the public at 5:15 p.m.
