ORLANDO, Fla. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay (10-8) softball team split a pair of
games in Rebel Spring play on Friday with an 8-1 win over Bucknell before
falling 4-2 to Colgate in extra innings, snapping its seven-game winning
streak.
Game 1 - Green Bay 8, Bucknell 1
Senior
Katie Cooney (East Moline, Ill.) was the winning pitcher and went 3-for-4 from
behind the plate, hitting six RBIs including a grand slam in the seventh inning following a two-run homer in the third. Classmate
Kendra Woepse (Manitowoc, Wis.) added a home run in the third inning, helping Green Bay in its largest margin
of victory this season.
Game 2 - Green Bay 2, Colgate 4 (8 INN)
Sophomore
Paige Newtols (Green Bay, Wis.) led the Phoenix from behind the plate going
2-for-4 while Ashley Nannemann (Burlington, Wis.) pitched seven innings in the
Green Bay loss. The Phoenix stranded 10 runners on base and committed three
errors.
Green
Bay will wrap up play in the Rebel Spring Games facing Rider Saturday at 9 a.m.
followed by Army at 11 a.m. The Phoenix will begin Horizon League play
Saturday, April 2 with a double-header at Cleveland State.
