ORLANDO, Fla. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay (11-9) softball team wrapped up its
play in the Rebel Spring games splitting a pair of contests. The Phoenix finished
8-2 throughout its 10 games with a 5-1 win over Rider before falling 2-0 to
Army in its final day of competition.
Game 1 - Green Bay 5, Rider 1
After
falling behind 1-0 in the first inning of play, Green Bay knotted the game 1-1
in the bottom of the second inning when freshman Miranda Reinke (Milwaukee,
Wis.) singled to right field scoring Jessica Hrncar (Bristol, Wis.). The Phoenix held the Broncs to just one hit
throughout the remaining six innings of play as Green Bay added four more runs,
including two in the fifth inning.
With
two outs in the bottom of the third, Dani Peerenboom (Appleton, Wis.) hit an
RBI double to left field scoring Amanda Omahen (San Diego, Calif.) to take the
2-1 lead. Meanwhile Kendra Woepse (Manitowoc, Wis.) led off the fourth inning
with a solo homerun to left field, boosting Green Bay's lead 3-1.
In
the bottom of the fifth inning, with one out, Peerenboom hit an RBI double to
left field scoring Alli Rivera (Geneseo, Ill.). Reinke followed suit with an
RBI single to left field, scoring Peerenboom and sealing the 5-1 win.
Tieraney
Planasch (Juneau, Wis.) allowed just one run off four hits throughout five
innings of play, picking up the win for the Phoenix.
Game 2 - Green Bay 0, Army 2
Green
Bay had five hits and left 10 runners on base as Army scored two runs in the bottom
of the first inning of play before shutting out the Phoenix.
Freshman
Haley Andrews (Kirkland, Wash.) led Green Bay behind the plate, going 2-for-3.
The
Phoenix will have a few weeks off from competition before beginning Horizon
League play Saturday, April 2 with a double-header at Cleveland State.
