DAYTON, Ohio (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay (13-13, 2-4 HL) softball team wrapped
up its three-game series at Wright State (18-16, 7-2 HL) Sunday, losing a pair
of games to the Raiders.
Game 1 - Wright State 5, Green Bay 2 - Wright State scored one run in the first and second
innings before Green Bay tied it 2-2 in the bottom of the third. With one out
and runners on second and third Kendra Woepse (Manitowoc, Wis.) hit an RBI
single to left field scoring Dani Peerenboom (Appleton, Wis.) and putting the Phoenix
on the board (2-1). With Jessica Hrncar (Bristol, Wis.) on third, Woepse
advanced to second on a wild pitch scoring Hrncar and tying the contest 2-2. Green
Bay scored two runs off one hit while stranding one runner to close the inning
with the tie.
The
Raiders took the final lead in the top of the fourth inning, scoring two runs
off two hits, taking the 4-2 advantage. Wright State freshman Kasie Rapshus led
off the fifth inning with a home run to center field and sealed the 5-2 win for
the Raiders.
Ashley
Nannemann (Burlington, Wis.) pitched four innings for the Phoenix while Ali
Goecks (Beloit, Wis.) closed the game pitching the final three. Behind the
plate Green Bay scored two runs off five hits while stranding 11 runners on
base.
Game 2 - Wright State 8, Green Bay 1 - The Raiders kept the bats rolling in the final game
scoring four runs off six hits in the first inning of play. Wright State added
two runs in the top of the third and one in both the fourth and fifth innings
of play, capturing the 8-1 win.
Green
Bay's lone run came in the bottom of the fifth inning with two outs and runners
on second and third when Paige Newtols (Green Bay, Wis.) hit an RBI single up
the middle, scoring Peerenboom.
The
Phoenix had 11 hits and stranded 11 runners on base in the loss.
Green
Bay will host South Dakota State (8-25, 5-6 Summit) in its home opener
Thursday, April 14. The first game of the double-header is slated to begin at
1:30 p.m. at Ben Garot Field.
