- The Green Bay (15-13, 2-5 HL) softball
team was edged by second-place Butler (23-15, 9-3 HL) in a cold and cloudy Horizon
League doubleheader Saturday, April 16 at the Butler Softball Field.
Game 1 - Green Bay 0, Butler 4 - Butler scored its first run in the bottom of the
second inning before adding three in the bottom of the fifth to shutout the
Phoenix in game one. The Bulldogs totaled four runs off three hits.
Green
Bay's lone hit of the game came in the fifth inning when Paige Newtols (Green
Bay, Wis.) led off with a single to center field.
Sophomore
Tieraney Planasch (Juneau, Wis.) pitched her third complete game of the season
while striking out five Bulldogs.
Game 2 - Green Bay 0, Butler 2 - The Bulldogs scored both of its runs in the bottom of
the second off an RBI double.
Sophomore
Cassie Scheel (Hartland, Wis.) had Green Bay's first hit in the top of the
fifth inning with a single to the pitcher. The Phoenix added another hit in the
top of the sixth when freshman Miranda Reinke (Milwaukee, Wis.) singled to
shortstop. Reinke later advanced to second off a SAC bunt by Sara Junion (Egg
Harbor, Wis.) but the Phoenix came up empty handed in the 2-0 loss to Butler.
Freshman
Ashley Nannemann (Burlington, Wis.) pitched the second complete game of her
collegiate career while striking out one batter.
Green
Bay will wrap up its three-game series with the Bulldogs Sunday, April 17 at 12
p.m. The Phoenix will make a stop at Loyola (16-16, 6-3 HL) on Tuesday, April
19 for a doubleheader against the Ramblers at 5 p.m. followed by a 3 p.m.
contest Wednesday, April 20.
The
Phoenix will return home Saturday, April 23 as it hosts Detroit (5-23, 0-8 HL)
in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. before wrapping up the series Sunday,
April 24 at 11 a.m. at Ben Garot Field.
