GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - Tom Poitras
has resigned as the head men's soccer coach at Green Bay to accept the same
position at the University of Hartford.
"Tom
has built this program into one that regularly competes for Horizon League
Championships and NCAA Tournament berths, and we want to thank him for his time
and dedication to our men's soccer program, athletics department and University
during his time at Green Bay," Green Bay Athletics Director Ken Bothof said. "Tom has the
opportunity to continue his career near his family and hometown in Connecticut,
and we wish him the best of luck at Hartford."
Poitras
had a 72-46-18 record in seven seasons at the helm of the Phoenix, and guided
the team to the NCAA Tournament in 2009. This past season, Green Bay went 13-4-2
overall and 6-2-0 in the Horizon League.
"It
has been an honor to be the head men's soccer coach at Green Bay," said
Poitras. "I have had the privilege of coaching many outstanding
student-athletes, and I cannot thank the players over the last seven years
enough. The current team is a special group of individuals who have been a
major part of my life and family. I am extremely proud of all the success
we have had in the last seven years. The Green Bay alumni and former
coaches have been tremendous to me and my family. I have made some friends
for life from my time here. I want to thank the athletic department staff
and coaches for all their support, and I am grateful to Ken Bothof and Dan
McIver for giving me the opportunity to lead this program and for all their
support.
"I
am excited for the next phase of my coaching career at the University of
Hartford, and we are thrilled to be going home to Connecticut."
Bothof
indicated a national search to replace Poitras will begin immediately.
