CHICAGO, Ill. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - After Tuesday's rain in the Chicago area postponed
Green Bay's (15-17, 2-9 HL) series with the Loyola Ramblers (18-18, 8-5 HL) both
teams took the field for a double-header Wednesday, April 20 at Loyola Softball
Park.
Game 1 - Green Bay 2 Loyola 5 - The Ramblers scored one run off two hits in the first
inning before the Phoenix took the lead in the top of the third. Amanda Omahen
(San Diego, Calif.) led off the inning with a single down the left field line.
After a sacrifice bunt by Sara Junion (Egg Harbor, Wis.) to advance Omahen,
Peerenboom hit a single to left field followed by an RBI single by Alli Rivera
(Geneseo, Ill.), that scored two runs. Green Bay took the 2-1 lead scoring both
runs off three hits.
The
Ramblers took the lead back in the bottom of the third on a fielder's choice
and unearned run to close the inning with the 3-2 advantage.
In
the bottom of the fourth the Ramblers hit a homerun to right field, boosting
its lead to 5-2.
After
suffering a right knee injury April 3 at Cleveland State, ace senior pitcher Katie
Cooney (East Moline, Ill.) returned to the mound for the Phoenix in the bottom
of the sixth inning.
Both
teams had nine hits in the game as Green Bay fell 5-2.
Game 2 - Green Bay 1 Loyola 9 - After the Ramblers scored four runs off two hits in
the second inning to take the early lead, the Phoenix put a run on the board in
the third inning when Danielle Peerenboom (Appleton, Wis.) hit an RBI single to
third base with two outs. Ashleigh Racer (Waterford, Wis.) scored the unearned
run for Green Bay cutting the Ramblers lead to three (4-1).
With
runners on second and third in the bottom of the fourth inning, Loyola hit a
three-run homer to right field and added a two-run homerun to right field in
the fifth, sealing the 9-1 win.
Green
Bay scored one run off three hits while Cooney pitched 3.2 innings, facing 15
batters in her first start in 10 games.
The
Phoenix will wrap up its three-game series against the Ramblers Thursday, April
21 at 3 p.m.
