WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - Green Bay men's tennis senior Paul Swanson (Coon Rapids, Minn.) took home the Flight B singles
championship on Sunday at the 11-team Purdue Invitational. Swanson won five matches over three days in the 45-player field at the Schwartz Tennis Center to
earn the title.
Swanson was victorious in
a pair of matches on Sunday to clinch the championship, taking down two
opponents from Toledo. The senior first defeated Rockets junior Terence Weigand
in the semifinals 6-3, 6-2, and then cruised past freshman Grant Adams 6-2, 6-0
in the championship match.
"I can't say enough about the outstanding performance of Paul Swanson this weekend," Phoenix head coach Mark Thomas said. "He's a senior that comes to practice every day with 100 percent intensity and enthusiasm, which is a great foundation for a team looking to build into a conference contender."
In addition to his
individual title, Swanson paired up with freshman Michael Tebon (Excelsior, Minn.) to win the Flight B doubles
consolation bracket on Sunday. The duo defeated Drake's team of Cesar Brancho
and Ryan Drake 8-4 in the final match.
Phoenix freshman Michael Tenzer (Neuried, Germany) was
in the final four of the Flight A singles main draw on Sunday, but dropped his
opening match of the day to DePaul's Filip Dzanko (3-6, 6-1, 7-5). The newcomer
