GREEN BAY, Wis.
(GreenBayPhoenix.com) - After a tough double overtime loss at Milwaukee Wednesday, the Green Bay
(4-3-1, 1-1-0) men's soccer team looks to get back on the winning track facing
a challenging UIC (5-2-2, 0-0-0) team on the road Saturday at 7:00 p.m. The
game will be the second of a four-game road trip for the Phoenix and third
consecutive conference tilt of the season. Saturday's contest at Flames Field
will be the Horizon League opener for UIC.
Both teams enter Saturday's contest coming off losses on the
road. The Phoenix fell 3-2 at Milwaukee in double overtime while the Flames lost
2-1 at Michigan State. Green Bay owns an overall record of 28-15-2 against the
Flames, winning the past two meetings.
Four players for the Phoenix have a team-high two goals on
the season. Senior Tony Walls (Wauwatosa, Wis.) has scored two goals and has a
team-leading three assists throughout seven games while sophomore Sam Krenzien
(Wauwatosa, Wis.) is pacing the Phoenix and Horizon League with 27 shots, 11 on
goal. Freshman Kirby Allen (Appleton, Wis.) scored his second goal of the
season in Wednesday's contest at Milwaukee while Alonso Flores (Chicago, Ill.) netted his second goal
in Green Bay's Horizon League opener against Loyola.
UIC's Eric Frazier leads the Flames and Horizon League with
six goals while Ivan Stanisavljevic is pacing the league and UIC with five
assists. Stanisavljevic also has four goals on the season, which is tied for
third best among league players.
National Rankings: Heading into this week's competition,
Green Bay is receiving votes in the NSCAA Great Lakes Regional Rankings for the
second consecutive week while UIC is ranked No. 7 in the region. Green Bay
moved up two spots to No. 37 in TopDrawerSoccer.com's Tournament 48 rankings
while UIC is receiving votes in the College Soccer News Top 30 National Poll.
Common Opponents: Green Bay and UIC face three common
non-conference opponents this season. The Phoenix opened the season with a 1-0 win
on the road at SIU-Edwardsville while the Flames hosted the Cougars in a 3-2
double overtime win. Both teams also beat Dayton 2-1 but it took Green Bay
double overtime play to capture the win. UIC shut out cross-town rival DePaul
2-0 while the Phoenix will battle the Blue Demons Wednesday, Oct. 5.
Next Up: Green Bay will continue its tour of
the windy city as it faces DePaul Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 3 p.m. before wrapping
up its four-game road stint at Tulsa Oct. 8. The Phoenix returns home Saturday,
Oct. 15 to battle Horizon League rival Butler at 7 p.m. at Aldo Santaga
Stadium.
