CHICAGO, Ill. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay (2-8-3, 0-3-2 HL) men's soccer team was unable
to overcome an early goal by Loyola (2-7-2, 1-1-2 HL), falling 1-0 to the
Ramblers at Loyola Soccer Park in Chicago, Ill. Saturday, Oct. 13.
Four minutes into the contest Loyola's
Jake Loy Savino scored the lone goal of the contest 10 yards out to put the
Ramblers up 1-0 at the break. Both teams had five shots in the opening half with
Green Bay junior Sam Krenzien (Wauwatosa, Wis.) leading all players with three,
including a shot on goal late in the 37th minute.
Green Bay senior Alonso Flores
(Chicago, Ill.) kicked off the second period with his lone shot on goal for the
contest but Ramblers' keeper Peter McKeown was there for one of his six saves
in the contest. Sophomore Kirby Allen (Appleton, Wis.) had one of his two shots
on goal in the 63rd minute before finishing the contest with three shots on the
night.
The Phoenix finished the contest with
two corner kicks, both coming in the second half of play. Green Bay's final
look at the goal came off a corner kick late in the 79th minute when Flores found
freshman Dylan McCarthy (Santa Monica, Calif.) for the header shot. Allen fired
Green Bay's last shot of the contest as the Phoenix was outshot 14-10 in the
loss and 6-2 on corner kicks.
Senior goalkeeper Ryan Wehking (St.
Louis, Mo.) made five saves in the game as Allen and Krenzien led the Phoenix
with three shots while Ahmad Bah (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) added two.
Green Bay will play its final road
game of the season Wednesday, Oct. 17 as it travels to in-state rival Wisconsin
to battle the Badgers at 7 p.m. The Phoenix returns to its home field of Aldo
Santaga Stadium for the final two regular season games. Green Bay hosts UIC
Saturday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. before wrapping up regular season play hosting
Cleveland State Saturday, Nov. 3 at 1 p.m.
