GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay (2-8-3, 0-3-2 HL) men's
soccer team will play its final road game of the regular season Wednesday, Oct.
17 as it heads to Madison to face in-state rival Wisconsin (4-6-3, 1-2-0 Big
Ten) at 7 p.m. at the McClimon Soccer Complex.
Green Bay enters the contest 2-5-1
against nonconference opponents this season and is coming off a 1-0 Horizon
League loss at Loyola Oct. 13 in Chicago, Ill. The Badgers are coming off their
first Big Ten win of the season after a late goal lifted Wisconsin to a 2-1 win
over Michigan on the same night.
The Phoenix and Badgers play three
common opponents in the 2012 season. Green Bay fell 1-0 to Marquette Aug. 26
before battling in-state rival Milwaukee to a 2-2 double overtime tie Oct. 3. The
Phoenix hosts Cleveland State in its final game of the season Saturday, Nov. 3
at 1 p.m. Wisconsin fell 2-1 against Marquette in double overtime Sept. 26
before edging Cleveland State 2-1 Sept. 29. The Badgers recently fell 1-0 to
Milwaukee on its home field Oct. 10.
ABOUT THE PHOENIX... Eight players have scored goals for the Phoenix this season including
sophomore Kirby Allen (Appleton, Wis.) who leads Green Bay with three while Sam
Krenzien (Wauwatosa, Wis.) and Alonso Flores (Chicago, Ill.) each have two on
the season. Flores leads Green Bay with 13 shots on goal (.650) while Allen has
six (.545).
With a save percentage of .732
through 10 games of play, Green Bay goalkeeper Ryan Wehking (St. Louis, Mo.) has
registered 53 saves during his senior campaign. Wehking and fellow senior
Alonso Flores are 3-0 against the Badgers with two shut out victories (2009,
2011) and a 4-3 overtime win during the 2010 season.
SCOUTING THE BADGERS... Wisconsin is led by junior forward Chris Prince with three
goals, four assists and 26 shots on the season. Junior Nick Janus also has
three goals on the season for the Badgers including his most recent 80th minute
goal against Michigan to lift Wisconsin to an eventual win over the Big Ten
foe.
The Badgers are currently in fifth
place in the Big Ten standings with a 1-2-0 record against conference
opponents. Wisconsin is 1-2-1 on its home field and 3-4-3 overall against
nonconference opponents during the 2012 season.
ABOUT THE SERIES... Wednesday's game is the 41st meeting between the in-state rivals with
Green Bay owning a 21-18-1 series edge over the Badgers. Green Bay has won the
past three games against Wisconsin, shutting out the Badgers two of the three
meetings. The Phoenix has a 9-10 record on the Badgers home field in Madison.
