GREEN BAY, Wis.
(GreenBayPhoenix.com) - With two games in three days, the Green Bay
women's soccer team (3-8-1, 0-2-1 HL) will return to Aldo Santaga Stadium to face Youngstown State and Wisconsin. The two-game homestand comes after a heartbreaking 1-0 double-overtime loss at Cleveland State Oct. 3. The Phoenix will square off
against Youngstown State Saturday, Oct. 6 at 1 p.m., and then host
nonconference rival Wisconsin Monday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m.
Green Bay returns home looking for its first win since
an impressive 3-1 outing against South Dakota Sept. 9. The team has remained
competitive, falling in three of its last four losses by only one goal. Head
coach Trevor Warren
felt the team played one of its best games of the season in the double overtime
loss to Cleveland State.
Youngstown State enters Santaga Stadium with a 6-4-0
record, recently snapping a four-game skid with a 3-1 win over Cedarville Sept.
25. The Penguins last outing came in the form of a 2-1 win over Milwaukee Sept.
29. Green Bay holds a commanding 9-2-1 all-time record over Youngstown State,
winning eight straight meetings from 2001-07. Last year's meeting saw the teams combine for 36 shots, but resulted in a
0-0 tie.
After a day off Sunday, Green Bay will remain at home to
face visiting Wisconsin. The Badgers come to Green Bay for the first
time since 2005 with a 7-4-1 overall record, but are just 2-3-1 on the road this
season. The Badgers have gone 0-2-1 over their last three games, most recently
battling Ohio State to a scoreless tie Sept. 30. A win against Wisconsin
would be the first in program history for Green Bay, as the Badgers hold a
15-0-0 all-time record against the Phoenix.
After the two-game homestand, Green Bay will have 10
days off before hosting rival Milwaukee Oct. 19.

HOMESTAND
SUCCESS: Green Bay's last two-game,
three-day homestand came earlier this season when the team hosted Michigan Tech
Sept. 7 and South Dakota Sept. 9. The Phoenix offense came alive over those two
games as the team won both contests by a combined score of 7-3.
SAVING THE
DAY: In her first season as starting
goalkeeper, sophomore Katy Pilarzyk
(Madison, Wis.) needs just one save to record her 50th of the season. Pilarzyk
has one shutout on the year and boasts a 1.36 goals against average.
MARCHING
OVER THE PENGUINS: Green Bay holds a
9-2-1 all-time record over Youngstown State, including an eight-game streak
from 2001-07 in which the Phoenix outscored the Penguins 28-5. The 2011 meeting
between the two teams ended in a 0-0 tie.
BEAT THE
BADGERS: A win in Monday's matchup
would be the first time Green Bay has defeated Wisconsin. Since the first
meeting in 1987, Wisconsin holds a 15-0-0 all-time record over Green Bay. The
past three matchups, all played at Wisconsin, ended 1-0 in favor of the
Badgers.
