Phoenix Opens Rebel Spring Games with Pair of Wins

ORLANDO, Fla. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay (3-8) softball opened the Rebel Spring Games with a pair of wins in Orlando, Fla. Mar. 13. Junior Allison Goecks (Beloit, Wis.) pitched her first career no-hitter game with the 9-0 shutout over Manhattan.

GAME 1, Green Bay 9, Manhattan 0 (5 INN) - The Phoenix scored all nine of its runs in the first two innings of play to capture its second consecutive win. Senior Alli Rivera (Geneseo, Ill.) hit a two-run homer in the opening inning to spark the Phoenix.

Green Bay added seven runs in the second inning with Sophomore Stacey Butts (Greenfield, Wis.) going 3-for-4 from behind the plate, striking two doubles for the Phoenix.

GAME 2, Green Bay 6, Bryant 2 - The Phoenix started the first inning with a bang, scoring six runs off three hits. Freshman Hailey Mohrfeld (Menominee Falls, Wis.) doubled down the right field line to reach base. Rivera was hit by a pitch before Stacey Butts walked to load the bases. Shannon Butts singled up the middle, scoring Mohrfeld for the rbi and the 1-0 lead. Miranda Reinke (Milwaukee, Wis.) hit an RBI after reaching on a fielder's choice, scoring Rivera before Amanda Omahen (San Diego, Cal.) reached on an error, scoring Stacey and Shannon Butts while advancing Reinke to third. Senior Amanda Pozolinski (Appleton, Wis.) hit an rbi single to left field, scoring Omahen and Reinke for the 6-0 lead.

Bryant put two runs on the board in the first inning with an rbi single and fielder's choice. The final 6 innings remained scoreless as the Phoenix defense was able to sustain the lead, allowing just four hits the remainder of the contest.

Sophomore Ashley Nannemann (Burlington, Wis.) pitched a complete game, striking out three batters and allowing 6 hits.

Green Bay will continue play in the Rebel Spring Games Wednesday Mar., 14 as it faces St. Peter's at 1:00 followed by Fairfield at 3:00.
