CHICAGO, Ill. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay (19-20, 8-8 HL) softball team wrapped up its three-game series
at UIC (22-23, 8-7 HL) with a 2-1 loss to the Horizon League opponent Thursday,
April 26 at Flames Field in Chicago, Ill.
After four-and-a-half scoreless innings, the Flames took a 2-0 lead with
four hits, including an RBI single and RBI sacrifice fly in the bottom of the
fifth inning.
With two outs in the top of the sixth, Danielle Peerenboom (Appleton,
Wis.) hit a single to advance Amanda Omahen (San Diego, Calif.) to second base and
Jessica Hrncar (Bristol, Wis.) to third. Miranda Reinke (Milwaukee, Wis.)
followed with an RBI single to center field, scoring Hrncar to cut the Flames
lead in half, 2-1.
The Flames retired the side in the top of the seventh to capture the 2-1
win over the Phoenix.
Green Bay finished with seven hits in the game with Peerenboom leading
the way going 2-for-3 from behind the plate. Omahen, Reinke, Paige Newtols
(Green Bay, Wis.), Stacey Butts (Greenfield, Wis.) and Alli Rivera (Geneseo,
Ill.) also each registered one hit for the Phoenix. Pitcher Alli Goecks
(Beloit, Wis.) went the distance for Green Bay from the mound, striking out
four batters through six innings of work.
The Phoenix continues its eight game road stretch with
a three-game series against Wright State Saturday, April 28 before playing its
final road series in a nonconference doubleheader against in-state rival
Wisconsin Wednesday, May 2 at 3:00 p.m. at Goodman Diamond in Madison, Wis.
