GREEN BAY, Wis.
(GreenBayPhoenix.com) - Senior Allison Goecks (Beloit, Wis.) posted
two wins on the mound and the Green Bay (21-22, 10-10 HL) softball team
improved to .500 in Horizon League play with a doubleheader sweep at Wright
State (20-29, 8-12 HL) on Saturday, winning 2-1 and 7-3.
The opener was a pitchers' duel with each starter
going the distance and allowing just four hits. The Phoenix scored both of its
runs in a 2-1 victory in the top of the third. Senior Amanda Omahen (San Diego, Calif.) had a double to left with one out
and scored on an RBI single from Stacey Butts (Greenfield, Wis.). Sophomore Miranda Reinke (Milwaukee, Wis.) also
singled in a run in the frame.
Wright State would score just one run off Goecks in
the opener when WSU's Kacie Raphus hit a solo home run in the bottom of the
fourth inning. Goecks would allow just four hits in seven innings while striking
out three and walking two.
In the second game, the Raiders went ahead 1-0 with a run
in the first inning but a run by the Phoenix in the second inning and a solo
home run in the third inning by Omahen put Green Bay in front to stay in a 7-3
Phoenix win.
The Phoenix broke the game open in the sixth inning
with four runs to lead 6-1. Green Bay had just one hit in the frame, but it was
a big one as junior Danielle Peerenboom
(Appleton, Wis.) cleared the bases after three walks with a three-run double. Peerenboom
finished 2-for-4 with the three RBI.
Goecks again went the distance for the Phoenix,
allowing just two earned runs on six WSU hits while striking out five and
walking just one.
Green Bay and Wright State will conclude their series on
Sunday, with the first pitch for game three set for 12 p.m.
