DAYTON, Ohio
(GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay
softball team went for a sweep of a three-game Horizon League series at Wright
State on Sunday, but the Raiders used a strong pitching performance by Krystian
DeWitt to win the contest 5-1.
Wright State got on the board in the second inning
with a pair of runs against Green Bay starter Allison Goecks (Beloit, Wis.),
who picked up both wins on the mound in the doubleheader sweep on Saturday. The
Phoenix got on the board in the top of the third inning with a bases loaded
walk by Paige Newtols (Green Bay, Wis.) to cut the margin to 2-1.
WSU would plate two runs in the bottom of the third
and another in the sixth inning for the final margin. The Phoenix got doubles
from both Miranda Reinke (Milwaukee, Wis.) and Amanda Pozolinski (Appleton,
Wis.) in the third and sixth innings, respectively, but both players were
stranded.
Green Bay will return to action with a pair of
non-conference doubleheaders this week, beginning on the road at Wisconsin on Wednesday
in a pair of contests televised by the Big Ten Network. The Phoenix will then
host North Dakota on Thursday with game one slated for 2 p.m.
